Answer:
A vent is a pipe or opening that provides for the circulation of air in a plumbing system and reductes the pressure on trap seals. There are three main functions of a vent:
- to maintain the atmospheric pressure in the system
- to prevent reduction of flow and loss of the seal at the trap
- to prevent sewer gas from entering the building
